Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a bright, white pigment used extensively in various applications due to its unique optical properties. Primarily, it provides whiteness and opacity to products like paints, plastics, papers, inks, foods, and most toothpastes. Besides its applications in making products more visually appealing, titanium dioxide is also used in sunscreens for its UV-protective properties.

The production of titanium dioxide involves extracting it from titanium ore and refining it into a fine powder. Its high refractive index makes it ideal for scattering visible light, resulting in an opaque barrier when used in coatings or in skin protection formulations.
